JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South Africa's Tongaat Hulett said on Thursday it expected headlines earnings per share for the year to rise more than 14 percent, lifted in part by increased sugar production. The agri-processing company said in a trading statement sugar production rose by 9 percent to 1.25 million tons with major increases in Zimbabwe - the latest sign of an agricultural recovery in the country.
President Reagan has named Carl Dillery to be the United States Ambassador to Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga, Tuvalu and the Republic of Kiribati, the White House announced today. He will replace Fred J. Eckert. Mr. Dillery, a career Foreign Service officer, has previously served in Brussels, London and Nicosia. Since 1982 he has been director of the State Department's Office of United Nations Political Affairs.
Gasoline prices in Massachusetts dropped three more cents per gallon this week, following two months of steady declines.
Self-serve, regular gas averaged $3.45 per gallon on Monday, according to AAA Southern New England. Prices locally are down 19 cents per gallon over the past month.
The current price is seven cents per gallon less than the national average for self-serve gas of $3.51 a gallon. A year ago at this time the Massachusetts average price was $3.85 a gallon.
