- Final defendant sentenced in $9.5M IRS fraud case
The final defendant tried in a $9.5 million Internal Revenue Service fraud case in U.S. District Court in Portland was sentenced Friday. Marcel Roy Bendshadler of Milwaukie, OR was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for his role in the case, which centered on what the IRS termed "abusive tax schemes" the defendants sold to taxpayers in 43 states through live seminars, the Internet and other marketing channels.Fellow defendants Joseph Oquendo Saladino of Idaho, Michael Sean Mungovan of Indiana and Richard Allen Fuselier of Louisiana were sentenced on July 28. Saladino received the maximum sentence of 60 months and Mungovan was sentenced to 48 months in prison. Fuselier testified for the government and was previously sentenced to a 21-month term.
