Introduction
Delaware became the United States' first state on December 7, 1787. The capital is Dover. Delaware gets is name from one of Virginia's early governors, Lord De La Warr. Delaware is the only state with no National Parks and is only 9 miles wide at its narrowest point. After Rhode Island, the First State is also the smallest state in the Union. With a total land area of 1,955 square miles it ranks 49th.
